North
Lanarkshire Art Exhibition 2003
The
second Annual exhibiton of North Lanarkshire Arts Association
was held in Airdrie Town Hall from Thursday 23 September
to Saturday 27 September 2003. It was partly funded by
the Department of Working Pensions, European Year of the
Disabled 2003 grant. The Exhibition itself was opened
by Tom Clarke, MP for Coatbridge and Chryston.
The exhibition
was a project supported by the European Year of the Disabled
and North Lanarkshire Council's Cultural Grant programme
following from a successful first exhibition in September
2002. The money from the European Grant enabled a disabled
person to be employed in order to co-ordinate the work.
One of the
main supporters of the exhibition is the Volunteer Centre
North Lanarkshire. Mary McNeil, Manager of the Volunteer
Centre North Lanarkshire, was the vice-chairperson of
North Lanarkshire Arts Association at the time of the
exhibition.
One of the
main attraction's of the Exhibition was "Four
Isle Stitchers' Hanging". This was made
to mark the millenium and depict North Lanarkshire using
a variety of illustrative embroidery technique's.
